WORCESTERSHIRE all-rounder George Rhodes today became the third generation of the Rhodes family to play first team cricket for a first class county.

The 22-year-old was included in the side for the Royal London One-Day Cup match with Yorkshire at Headingley.

Rhodes has followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Billy - full name William Ernest - Rhodes and his father Steve, the current director of cricket at New Road.

He has earned his called up after a successful winter playing for North Canberra Gungahlin in Australia and a good start to the 2016 for the Seconds of whom he is captain.

Billy Rhodes was a wicket-keeper batsman who played 36 first class games for Nottinghamshire between 1961 and 1964.

He scored 1207 runs at an average of 20.11.

Billy passed away aged 69 in 2005.

Steve Rhodes played with distinction for Worcestershire for two decades from the mid 1980s until his retirement in 2004 after moving from his native Yorkshire.

He scored 14, 839 first class runs at an average of 32.82 with 12 hundreds and 72 fifties and 4,362 List A runs.

'Bumpy' collected 1,139 first class catches and 124 stumpings and 532 List A catches and 129 stumpings.

It means Worcestershire currently have two players who are the third generation of their family to have played first team cricket for a first class county with Rhodes following the path of Brett D'Oliveira.
