WORCESTERSHIRE Academy player Ollie Westbury completed a memorable first series with England Under 19s by being voted his side's player of the series.

Westbury hit a superb 196 on his debut in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Fenners - the highest ever score by a Worcestershire player at that level.

He followed that up by scoring 45 and 41 - before being run out- in the second Test at Northampton.

The Sri Lankans judged Westbury player of the series and he received the award from David Graveney OBE, chairman of selectors for the England Development Programme.

Westbury has made rapid progress during the past 12 months.

He enjoyed a successful winter playing grade cricket in Australia for Hay Park and this summer has scored two centuries for the County's Second Eleven.

Worcestershire Second Eleven coach Kevin Sharp said: "We are very proud of him and he can be very proud of himself as well because he works extremely hard.

"He's got a very good work ethic, he is a good lad and has really come to the party. All credit to him."

The only disappointment for Westbury was that England lost the second 'Test' by seven wickets.

Westbury will now return to County duty as he is not part of the Under-19 squad chosen for the three match Royal London One-Day Series with the Sri Lankans.
