WEST Indies paceman Miguel Cummins “will be giving his all” for Worcestershire in their Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash at Sussex tomorrow (10.30am).

The 25-year-old was the pick of the County’s attack, according to skipper Daryl Mitchell, in their innings defeat at promotion favourites Essex on their last outing.

Cummins finished wicketless on his County debut, returning with 0-114 from 28 overs as Essex amassed 601-5 in their first innings at Chelmsford.

But Mitchell was pleased with the effort from Barbados-born Cummins, who is keen to add to his 125 first-class wickets from 45 matches.

“Miguel was probably the pick of our bowlers down at Essex and bowled pretty well on a flat wicket,” said Mitchell.

“He’s got a bit more pace than the rest of the guys and he’s fitted in well.

“Our dressing room is a fairly easy one to slot into and I am sure he will be giving his all in the last two games.”

Cummins was brought in as a replacement for South African paceman Kyle Abbott, who had to cut short his stay at New Road because of international commitments.

It is Cummins’ first taste of county cricket and he follows in the footsteps of compatriots Kemar Roach (2012) and Shannon Gabriel (2015), who have played for Worcestershire at the back-end of recent seasons.

Mitchell added: “Miguel has got a lot to prove still and is only a young lad who is starting to make his way in Test cricket.

“I am sure he will want to show he can bowl well in English conditions.”
