NEW Worcestershire captain Joe Leach stands at the head of the leading wicket-taking charts for Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship for the 2016 campaign.

Leach's seven wickets in the final game of the season against Derbyshire at New Road enabled him to power past the retiring Graham Napier of Essex and former Worcestershire seamer Steve Magoffin of Sussex.

The 25-year-old, deservedly crowned the County's Players' Player Of The Year for the second year running, ended with 65 wickets from his 15 appearances in the competition.

He recorded five five-wicket hauls - 5-115 v Essex, 5-99 v Leicestershire, 5-70 v Northamptonshire, 5-106 v Glamorgan and 5-60 v Derbyshire.

Only eight bowlers finished with 50 or more wickets in Division Two - a testament to the flatter pitches produced under the new 'toss' rule.

Leach's County colleague, Joe Clarke, finished as the eighth highest run-scorer in Division with 1,206 at an average of 48.24.

The 20-year-old registered five Championship tons in his first full season - 135 v Gloucs, 133 v Glamorgan, 123 v Leicestershire, 125 v Northamptonshire and 194 v Derbyshire.

He was a model of consistency in a campaign where 13 players in Division Two scored 1,000 runs or more.

Opener Daryl Mitchell was the 19th highest scorer in Division Two with 873 runs at 34.92.
