FORMER England Lions batsman Ross Whiteley will aim to repeat his heroics for Worcestershire Rapids in tomorrow’s trip to Leicestershire Foxes (11am).

The former Derbyshire player cracked an unbeaten 41 from just 19 balls as the County began their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with a five-wicket Duckworth-Lewis win over Notts Outlaws.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali will be available for Rapids after snapping up 2-49 from 10 overs and hitting 14 against star-studded Notts at New Road on Thursday.

Outlaws posted 273-6 after a fine 104 from ex-England player Michael Lumb before showers left the hosts with a reduced target of 168 in 22 overs.

Joe Clarke struck 40 from 26 balls before Whiteley took centre stage, dispatching four fours and two sixes as the hosts chased down the target with two overs remaining.

Reflecting on the triumph, bowler Jack Shantry said: “It was a fantastic win. Our bowling first up was good on a pitch that was doing a bit.

"Joe Leach and John Hastings bowled well and got us off to a good start.

"Then chasing that big total in 22 overs we played really well. Ross had a fantastic knock at the end and it was a good way to start the tournament.

"Joe Clarke's knock was really classy against some high-quality bowling with their international bowlers like Stuart Broad bowling quickly.

“The light was fading a bit but Clarkey played some phenomenal shots over the keeper off Broad. We did really well to get there with a couple of overs to spare."

Leicestershire started their northern group campaign against Lancashire Lightning at Old Trafford yesterday after a difficult opening month of the season.

The Foxes are languishing in the lower reaches of County Championship Division Two after two defeats and a draw from three four-day matches.

Former captain Daryl Mitchell was omitted from the County’s match-day 11 against Notts.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes is likely to keep faith with the same winning line-up.
