MOEEN Ali fell victim to a superb return catch by Nathan Lyon as England came off second best on day three of the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.
The Worcestershire all-rounder, again batting at number six, made 25 from 57 balls including successive boundaries off Lyon on the leg side.
But Moeen, who had scored 38 and 40 in the first Test in Brisbane, saw Lyon hang on to a one-handed catch away to his left.
It meant England were 132 for six in reply to Australia’s 442 for eight declared and were bowled out for 227 in 76.1 overs.
Lyon, who had a stint at Blackfinch New Road as Worcestershire’s overseas player last summer, ended with four wickets.
As well as Moeen, he also accounted for opener Alastair Cook before cleaning up the England tail.
Australia skipper Steve Smith did not enforce the follow despite his side having a lead of 215 on first innings.
But the hosts had lost four wickets for 53 runs by the close of play, including Smith himself for six with James Anderson and Chris Woakes claiming two wickets apiece.
