HEAD coach Paul James says his new-look Worcester Wolves are improving with each match in the British Basketball League.

Wolves face Leeds Force tomorrow at the University of Worcester Arena and will be aiming for their fifth win in six outings (7.30pm).

James’ men produced their best display of the campaign last Friday when they recorded a 92-85 home win against Glasgow Rocks – their second victory over the Scottish side this term.

Wolves’ Perris Blackwell scored 21 points to seal his spot in the BBL All-Star Five for the second week in succession.

Blackwell converted 83.3% from the floor after scoring 10 of 12 shots in the paint.

He also completed a double-double by hauling down 17 rebounds.

James said: “We are clearly getting better game-by-game and played our best basketball of the season so far against Glasgow Rocks.

“We have to continue improving in all areas, but I’m very happy we are able to pick up wins while we are getting to where we want to be.

“I was delighted with the win because Glasgow are very tough opposition and we had beaten them in a scruffy match on the opening night of the season.

“Pavol Losonsky and Jay Couisnard had quiet evenings.

“But Perris, Javier Mugica, Ashton Khan and Ben Eaves came into their own and showed the strength and depth of the squad.

"It was our best performance at both ends of the floor.”

Wolves sit just behind Leicester Riders and Esh Group Eagles Newcastle in the standings with a 4-1 record, although the teams above them are unbeaten.

Wolves won all their meetings with Leeds last season, including an emphatic 84-54 away success when the teams last met in March.

Leeds suffered a heavy 87-59 home league defeat against Leicester last Friday and crashed 84-65 at Glasgow in the cup on Sunday.

James said: “Leeds have made a pretty good start to the season.

“Having lost a couple of early games they bounced back with a couple of wins that will give them confidence.

“We have so much to do as a group that our focus is not so much on what Leeds do, but ensuring that whatever we do as a team, we do it well.

“Leeds are well coached and well organised and they will play hard for 40 minutes. We have to go out and get them.”

Leeds’ Zak Wells is their leading scorer with 37 points and ranks in the top three in the BBL for total two-pointers made.

Force captain Armand Anebo: “Over the weekend we made a lot mistakes defensively due to mental lapses and got punished for it.

“We didn't get a lot of the basic defensive principles right hence the margins. So the main focus this week will be defence, which is a must considering the team we are going against this weekend.

“We need to be almost perfect if not perfect by putting four quarters of basketball together. Ultimately, it will come down to how well we will match up with them defensively.”
