WITH 18 successive league wins to their name and a BBL Cup to boot, some people may think high-flyers Newcastle Eagles are simply unstoppable this season.

But there is one player in Worcester Wolves’ ranks who knows how to gain sweet success over the defending British Basketball League champions and believes another upset could be on the cards on Friday night (7.30pm start).

Unlike the rest of his teammates, Disraeli Lufadeju has been part of a Worcester side used to regularly ruffling the feathers of Eagles.

Before losing to Newcastle in November, Wolves racked up four successive victories over the Tyne and Wear side, who clinched their fourth BBL Cup last Sunday.

And Lufadeju, who joined Wolves in 2013, insisted there was no reason why head coach Paul James’ men cannot end their opponents’ long winning streak at the University of Worcester Arena.

“We normally beat Newcastle more times than they beat us and this was the first season where they had beaten me,” the 23-year-old said.

“I just feel a lot of teams fall back on the fact that Newcastle are intimidating as they’re aggressive and teams are more scared of their name than their actual plan.

“So, as long as we stick to what we know and play hard throughout, I think we can win tonight.”

Following wholesale changes in the summer, Lufadeju became the last remaining member of James’ double-winning side in 2014.

The history-making year for the club included seeing off Newcastle in the BBL play-off final at Wembley Arena.

And Lufadeju says he has passed his knowledge and experiences of facing the league leaders to Wolves’ players.

“You have to look past their names and just play the game you’ve been playing for so many years,” he said.

“Playing them in the final was a great experience, so I know how to beat Newcastle.

“We may have lost our last two matches but it will make us play harder.

“I think Newcastle will have a chip on their shoulder after winning the cup, so I think we might upset them tonight.”
