HEAD coach Paul James has urged his players to seize their opportunity and fire Worcester Wolves into the BBL Trophy final.

Worcester host Newcastle Eagles in the second leg of their semi-final tomorrow (3pm) with a “fantastic” chance of securing a place at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

James said it was “all to play for” in the tie after Newcastle claimed a 73-66 victory last Friday, leaving Wolves with a “surmountable” seven-point deficit.

However, he said it was now down to his players to produce the goods on the day as they look to set up a showdown with Sheffield Sharks or Leicester Riders on Saturday, February 27.

“I am delighted with where we are. It could have been better, a bit closer, but it could have been a lot worse,” said James, whose side defeated leaders Newcastle 94-80 in the British Basketball League last month.

“We were 16 points down at one stage and managed to fight back. Anything over 10 would have been a real slog to come back from but seven is OK as the last time we were here we beat them by 14.

“The signs are positive for sure. We spoke with this new team at the start of the season and said, ‘We are going to try to give ourselves a chance of getting to a final,’ and we have actually done that.

“Should we be able to achieve that, it would be massive for the team and for the club.

“The players know that and they don’t need any further motivation.”

Wolves won the Trophy in 2014 and James said it was important the people of Worcester got behind his side as they bid to match that achievement.

“I think (having the second leg at home) is an advantage as we know what we have got to do,” James added.

“Newcastle know what they have got to do as well but we will be playing in front of what is hopefully going to be a full-capacity crowd.

“So, if the people of Worcester come out and get behind us, I am sure we can produce something very special for them and give us a chance of getting through to the Trophy final again.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for us and it is still anyone’s game, so whoever shows up and plays the best is going to get through.”
