NEW signing Jordan Aaron will be thrown “straight into the fire” when Worcester Wolves take on Leeds Force tonight (7.30pm).

The talented point guard, who was playing for CAB Madeira in Portugal last season, only arrived in Worcester on Wednesday.

However, head coach Paul James was confident Aaron would be able to hit the ground running and revealed he would be making his debut at the Carnegie Sports Centre.

The 23-year-old American is a versatile, scoring playmaker and James believes he has the potential to help Wolves produce “something very special” this season.

“We will throw him straight into the fire against Leeds,” James said.

“Jordan is a guy who can score, is very pacey and will run the ball better up and down the floor for us.

“He can create scoring opportunities for his team-mates as well, so people can’t sit off him.

“If you look at some of the top teams in the league — Newcastle, Leicester and Sheffield — all their guards have got the whole package.

“They can rebound, score, get their team-mates in the open and steal the ball. I think with Jordan we are going to get that kind of player.”

Wolves lost four out of six games in a disappointing February and James felt Aaron’s arrival was just what his third-placed side needed with eight games remaining before the play-offs.

“His arrival is only a positive as far as I am concerned,” he said.

“If we didn’t have any ambition to be successful, we would have left the team as it was.

“But we have ambition and are showing that by bringing in a player we feel can help us have a really good run in the play-offs.

“He has got eight league games before that comes around and hopefully he will give us that bit of a spark which will just tip us over that edge of doing something very special this season.”

James said his re-energised players were keen to face ninth-placed Leeds after a 13-day rest from league action.

“Leeds have been playing very well of late and it is going to be a tough game without question,” he said. “But certainly there are tougher teams we could have played in this first game back.

“We have had individual and team meetings and discussed where we want to go from here and it is clear we want to finish the season as strong as we possibly can.

“We don’t think our season is dead by any means and that is why we have brought Jordan here.”
