FORMER Worcester Wolves star Orlan Jackman has joined British Basketball League rivals Newcastle Eagles.

The ex-London Lions player averaged 10.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season for Worcester Wolves.

Wolves head coach Paul James and managing director Mick Donovan both hailed Jackman’s arrival at the University of Worcester Arena in December.

And, on signing for Wolves, Jackman said: “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to win silverware in my own country, that’s the dream.”

However, the 6ft 7in 28-year-old athletic forward, who enjoyed a short spell at CAB Maderia in Portugal prior to joining Wolves, has signed for Newcastle.

“I first learned about Newcastle’s interest a few years ago but wanted to go aboard and play,” said Jackman.

“When they approached me for this season I spoke to a few former players and the coach and felt that in this stage of my career and the stage that Newcastle is at, it was the best move for both parties involved.

“After the things they’ve done in the last few seasons, I’m looking forward to playing for them very much and helping them improving upon what they did last season, which was I know was historic but ended too soon for them.”

“I’m also looking forward to playing in front of the famous Geordie fans, hearing you and seeing you very soon.”

Perris Blackwell and Jay Couisnard will also not be returning to Wolves.

However, Worcester have bolstered their ranks with the capture of three players.

Canadian Marek Klassen, a former Leeds Force player, American Deondre McWhorter and Trevor Setty, an ex-Surrey and Plymouth University Raider, have all joined Wolves.
