WORCESTER Wolves have returned to Spain to strengthen their team for the 2016/17 campaign with the signing of Alejandro Navajas.

Following the impact of Javier Mugica, who has left the club after a memorable one season stint, Worcester have snapped up 6ft 7in Navajas.

The talented forward is set to bring a wealth of European experience to the new-look Wolves outfit and look to form a powerful partnership with fellow summer signing Deondre McWhorter.

Navajas, who arrives at the University of Worcester Arena from double winning LEB Silver Division side Marin, said he was “hungry” for trophies.

“I am extremely happy to be here and I feel very motivated and eager to start working,” said the 29-year-old who averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game last season.

“It will be my first opportunity to play abroad and I am very excited to be helping the Wolves and using my experience.

“Last season I won the league and the cup but I am hungry for trophies and I come here to fight for a championship.”

Product of the prestigious Unicaja Malaga programme. Navajas has played most of his basketball in the highly respected LEB Gold Divisions and has developed a strong reputation for his all-round contribution to the team.

Coach Paul James said: “Alejandro has a great deal of experience of playing in Spain in the highly competitive LEB Gold and Silver divisions where he has had much success including last season winning the league and cup with his team.

“We are really looking forward to Alejandro joining up with the team.”

Navajas becomes Worcester’s fifth new recruit of the summer following the captures of McWhorter, Trevor Setty, Danny Huffor and Jermel Kennedy.

Earlier this week, Ashton Khan accepted an offer to stay at Wolves.

Wolves managing director Mick Donovan added: “Once again, we have used our contacts in Spain to advise on the potential of players who can help the team when assembling our new squad.

“The type of game and style that Alejandro brings will clearly support the progress of other players throughout the team, whilst also making a huge impact within the front court unit.”

Meanwhile, Mugica, who averaged 10.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season, is understood to have moved to a club in Europe.
