HEAD coach Paul James believes Worcester Wolves are “coming good at the right time” as they prepare for this weekend’s double-header.

Wolves host Plymouth Raiders in the second leg of their British Basketball League Trophy semi-final on Friday (7.30pm) needing to overturn an 18-point deficit.

They then travel to Surrey Scorchers on Saturday (7pm) in what James described as a “very important” game in Worcester’s season as they bid to establish themselves in BBL’s top eight.

However, James insisted his players were in “confident” mood after an upturn in form which has seen them win six of their last eight matches.

“We are coming good at the right time,” James said.

“Prior to Christmas we would go into games thinking how we would win but now we have got the confidence and motivation to think if we play our game we can beat anybody.

“We have beaten some really good teams this year and right now we are in a good vein of form with everyone working well for each other.

“This weekend is quite unusual as we have got back-to-back games in two consecutive days.

“We haven’t had that situation all season long so it is going to be interesting to see how we respond to that as the game against Surrey is a very important one for us.”

Forward Jermel Kennedy earned a spot in this week’s BBL All Star Five after his 19-point haul in Wolves’ 99-91 victory over London Lions at the University of Worcester Arena last Friday.

James said he was delighted to get the win as his seventh-placed side backed up their 100-71 thrashing of Lions at the Copper Box last month.

“It was a big win for us against another team who are tipped to be in the top four,” he said.

“It was important we went out there and got a win at the arena. We have had a few good games at home but we needed to get a win over a very good team like London.

“We knew there was going to be a bit of an onslaught because of the way we beat them a couple of weeks previously on their floor.

“They were very physical and aggressive early on and I don’t think we handled that well in the first quarter.

“But after that we settled down and started to play our game as we got the stops we needed and got better rhythm offensively.

“It was an excellent win in the end.”
