HEAD coach Paul James insists he does not expect well-travelled Trey Zeigler to “take on the world” at Worcester Wolves.

Zeigler made his debut in Wolves’ 99-91 victory over London Lions last Friday just two days after flying in from Dallas.

And James said the 25-year-old, who was brought in to replace the injured Andrew Bachman, was “instrumental” in their win, rattling in 12 points.

“I am really pleased with him as he flew in on Wednesday, had one training session on Thursday and then had a game on Friday,” James said.

“It was important to get him into the swing of things quickly against a very tough team in London.

“He was instrumental in blowing the game wide open down the stretch as he got some key stops defensively and key scores offensively.”

The American is likely to play in Wolves’ BBL Trophy semi-final second leg against Plymouth Raiders at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow (7.30pm).

“The fact he can create his own shots off the dribble as well as for other people and be solid defensively gives us something different,” James continued.

“He also has a high basketball IQ so he can pick up plays relatively quickly.

“I am not expecting Trey to take on the world right now but he just enhances what we have here.”

James admitted it was “difficult” to bring in a player at this stage in the season but he believes Zeigler’s nomadic lifestyle has helped him settle in quickly.

The 6ft 6in forward started the season with BBC Bascharage in Luxembourg after a spell in the Czech Republic with JBC MMCITE Brno.

He also moved around during his college career, playing for Central Michigan, University of Pittsburgh and Texas Christian University.

“He is well-travelled as he was following his dad who is a coach to different places,” James added.

“He’s familiar with change in personnel so there is no issue with that and the players have really welcomed him into the Wolfpack.

“Everything is good, training is solid and everybody is really confident right now so he is going to fit right in.”

Wolves head to Surrey Scorchers in the BBL on Saturday (7pm).
