WORCESTER Wolves are preparing for a Leeds Force “onslaught” at the University of Worcester Arena tonight (7.30pm).

Head coach Paul James insists his players will need to be “extremely sharp” defensively and “very aggressive” offensively to see off their “dangerous” opponents.

Leeds languish third from bottom in British Basketball League while seventh-placed Wolves are on the crest of a wave having won eight of their last 10 games in all competitions.

But James is expecting a “tough game” as Force have previously ripped up the form book this season, claiming the scalps of high fliers Newcastle Eagles and London Lions.

“If we don’t prepare properly and perform on the night, Leeds can beat us,” he said. “They have got a very good point guard and shooting guard who are both going to score points in a hurry and the players around them know their roles and play very hard.

“They are a dangerous team who play for 40 minutes and are not going to lie down, so we really need to be prepared mentally as much as anything else to weather their onslaught.

“But if we can get off to a good start and stick to our game plan there is no reason why we can’t win this game.”

Wolves are aiming to secure their second victory over Force this term having claimed a 91-77 win at the Sports Carnegie Arena in November.

After a busy February, Wolves were not in action last weekend which allowed players to recharge their batteries, but James insisted there had been no let-up on the practice court.

“We have been training as if we had a game at the weekend, so we have not had any time off at all,” he said.

“It has been a chance for some of the players to rest some of the niggles they have had, but apart from that we have just been fully on it, working as hard as ever.

“It was hard not having any games last weekend, but we have got to get back into it straight away against Leeds.

“We have got to be very aggressive offensively and we have to be extremely sharp defensively because they have got some really good shooters.

“If they make one or two shots they can make six or seven so we have got to chase them off the three-point line. We have got to be solid and play to our strengths.

“They are not the biggest team in the world, but they have got some quick, smart guards who can create scoring opportunities for their teammates. We have got to control that tempo of the game and win the battle of the rebounds and get the multiple stops in defence. If we can get high assists and low turnovers we should be able to come away with another good win.”
