SILENT assassin Sam Betty is targeting a century of Warriors appearances - but only after helping the club to avoid relegation this season.

Softly-spoken off the field, the former Cornish Pirates back-rower has forged a no-nonsense reputation on it.

The 27-year-old Bristolian does most of his work in the shadows, but has become a vital part of Dean Ryan's Warriors side.

Throughout matches, Betty will constantly do the unseen hard graft clearing out rucks and offering himself up for countless carries and then, out of nowhere, he will announce himself on the opposition with a trademark bone-crunching tackle.

"Speaking from my own point of view I will go onto the pitch and be 100 per cent committed and be the best that I can," said Betty. "But we need to keep our heads up and keep pushing on. I’ll crack on and keep working hard.

"I’ve learnt a lot under the new coaches and they’ve been fantastic."

The Worcester number seven shirt was up for grabs this season after Matt Kvesic's departure to Gloucester and, with Jake Abbott a long-term injury victim, Betty has made it his own.

Compared to Kvesic's style as a breakdown technician who is brilliant over the ball, Betty is in stark contrast, but adds an important physical edge to Worcester's pack.

He added: It’s good to be playing every week. I just try to contribute as much as I can for the team. I want to play every week and I want us to stay up.

"It’s short-term goals at the moment. Keep fit, keep healthy, train hard and try and perform at the weekend.

"Next season will be my fourth year at the club and I’m pretty settled here. With Dean’s vision, it is a place where people will want to be.

"Hopefully we’re on our way up. I’d love to be playing regularly next season and aim to get 100 games for the club."
