WORCESTER Warriors have hit back at claims they refused to remove GPS units in a Championship clash at London Scottish.

Warriors will not be appealing against a £1,000 fine and a suspended two-point deduction after the Greene King IPA Championship’s organising committee agreed the club had breached league regulations.

But the Sixways outfit refute the committee’s ruling they refused to remove the GPS systems when approached by Scottish.

The Championship leaders are contacting the RFU to ask why they were not told the date of the Championship’s organising committee’s meeting or allowed to make representations.

In a statement, Warriors said they wanted to know how the organising committee “was able to suggest the club had refused to remove the GPS equipment on request, given the officials’ evidence and without hearing from witnesses from the club or allowing the club the opportunity to challenge other witnesses.”

Warriors claim they were not asked to remove the GPS equipment before, at half-time or during December’s game at Scottish, which they won 34-17.

Worcester also claim the RFU failed to notify the club that London Scottish refused to give their consent to the use of GPS equipment.

Warriors’ statement added: “The club now employ clear procedures concerning the use of GPS equipment and, in the spirit of co-operation, will continue to offer other clubs the use of such equipment and the expertise to interpret the data should they require it.

“Worcester Warriors remain committed to obtaining player consent and maintaining player welfare — sentiments which it is hoped others will now also seek to achieve.”
