WORCESTER Warriors will keep faith with the players who steered them into the British and Irish Cup final.

Head coach Carl Hogg insists Worcester will not change their selection policy for the showdown with Clive Griffiths’ Doncaster Knights at Castle Park on Friday, April 3 (5.10pm).

Warriors have fielded a squad comprising largely of fringe players in the cup and booked their final place with a nail-biting 15-13 win over holders Leinster ‘A’ on Friday.

The disappointing aspect was only 3,760 watched the tie in Worcester’s lowest home gate of the season.

Worcester meet Championship strugglers Doncaster, who recorded a 27-22 home win in front of only 785 fans over Bristol on Saturday.

Warriors have won all eight cup games and beat Doncaster twice in the Championship this term.

Hogg said: “We will stay true to the guys who got us to the final. They battled well against Munster and had to battle against Leinster.

“Leinster had a little bit of ball in the last five to 10 minutes and we defended multiple phases. There’s a good team spirit in that group and within the club.

“You can play great, wide and fancy rugby, but if it doesn’t win games at critical times that’s most important.

“The final is a great focus for us and it’s great to get the guys, who are not necessarily playing week-in week-out in the Championship, a focal point we can work towards.

“We want to use this competition to introduce young players or play them more regularly. We knew we had the squeeze around set-piece and found a way to win against Leinster. That’s really important for us.”

James Percival and Dan Sanderson impressed in Worcester’s victory, while centre Alex Grove suffered a bang on the head and Hogg said Ignacio Mieres had been ruled out with a hamstring problem.

Hogg revealed: “Mieres has got an issue with his hamstring so, rather than expose him and put him on the bench, we thought it was safer to put in Andy Symons.”
