WARRIORS tighthead prop Nick Schonert admits he is looking forward to the weather hotting up.

South African-born Schonert has been getting used to scrummaging in wet conditions and playing in cold temperatures since arriving in Worcester in the summer.

The 23-year-old said: “I have found that you can actually go further in the cold weather because you don’t get as tired and you don’t burn as much energy.

“In the cold conditions, you don’t really warm up – so it probably has advantages and disadvantages. In South Africa, it’s always going to be hot regardless of whom you play and 90 per cent of the time it will be a dry game with humidity.

“The season started off really well in warmer conditions and dry fields but, with the wet weather, there has been a lot for me to learn. There’s also a lot of competition in each position – we have around five fly-halves, five tight-heads and everyone is hungry to play.”

Schonert made his competitive debut for Warriors in September’s last-gasp 23- 19 defeat against Bristol at Ashton Gate.

He scored his maiden try in their 34-17 Greene King IPA Championship victory at London Scottish in December.

“I really enjoyed the match at London Scottish,” said Schonert.

“It was my first try of the season. I got one in pre-season but my highlight so far has probably been scoring against London Scottish.”

Schonert, who can’t wait for the end- of-season play-offs, is enjoying life in Worcester and spending time with Niall Annett and Darren O’Shea.

“I am loving my time at Worcester – I am really lucky that we have got such a good bunch of boys,” he said. “Whether it has been a good or bad game for me, I have always got the boys to pick me up.

“I can’t really say I have one friend in particular because the squad is so close and I am trying to be friends with every - one. Normally, you don’t get on with eve - ryone but at this club I do.”

He added: “I have been to watch two or three football games and I went to watch Manchester City against Barcelona in the Champions League a few weeks ago.

“I normally spend time with the Irish boys and going to the movies."
