WINGER Cooper Vuna insists Worcester Warriors supporters can have a major influence on his on-field exploits.

The 27-year-old scored a debut try in Saturday’s 56-16 victory against London Scottish and celebrated by throwing the ball to a fan in the upper tier of the South Stand.

Vuna, who has played twice for Australia and is a former rugby league player, received ‘good luck’ messages prior to the game from Danny Cipriani and Gareth Delve.

“It was pleasing to get good energy from good friends I used to play with at Melbourne Rebels,” he said.

“I also try to get among the fans. The more the fans give, the more I give. That’s just the way I play and the way I like things to be.

“The more I interact with the crowd, hopefully, the more the crowd will feed back to me.”

Vuna’s try at the beginning of the second-half sparked a dominant display from Warriors, who notched 35 points without reply after the interval.

“It felt good to be scoring tries again – I had not done it for a while.

“It’s been about four months since I last played a match so it was nice to get that out of the way and get the lungs going.

“One job I had to do was carry hard and trying to take the boys forward.

“There were a couple of runs in there – I thought I would try to hold off for a bit to get the feel of the game before getting in a couple of runs.”

Vuna had been set to make his debut against Plymouth Albion earlier this month but sprained an ankle in a warm-up before the captain’s run.

He is now looking forward to Friday’s British and Irish Cup final against Doncaster Knights at Castle Park (5.10pm).

“It will be good to get stuck into another game, hopefully, bring home the cup,” said Vuna.

“I am keen to put pride into the jersey and I am trying to play my best. That’s the mentality I am going to adopt.”
