DESPITE Worcester’s 39-26 success against Yorkshire Carnegie, the vulnerability of their front five will be a concern for director of rugby Dean Ryan with the play-offs fast approaching.

Warriors have some of the most potent backs in the Greene King IPA Championship and would also cause problems in the top-tier.

But the manner in which Yorkshire gained scrum dominance and muscled their way into the contest from 19-0 down won’t have gone unnoticed by their rivals.

Hooker Gus Creevy continues to revel in the loose, scoring Worcester’s third try, but a question-mark remains over the accuracy of his throws into the line-out.

With Dan George helped from the field late in the game, Ryan will be hoping Niall Annett is fit for Saturday’s trip to Cornish Pirates.

Flanker Sam Betty, whose late try eventually killed off Yorkshire’s challenge, is someone Ryan will look to for adding aggression to the Warriors’ pack.

And young flanker Sam Lewis, who grabbed his maiden try for Worcester, is still finding his feet since arriving from the Ospreys.

Ryan Lamb gave a confident display at fly- half and linked up well with centre Ryan Mills and Cooper Vuna continues to threaten – and was drafted into the scrum when Warriors had 14 men.

Warriors, initially, looked to be powering towards a comfortable win when they ran in three tries in 17 minutes.

In an opening burst which mirrored the ac - curacy of Worcester’s British and Irish Cup triumph at Doncaster, Warriors took full control.

Sam Smith finished off a multi-phase attack from the hosts to dive over for the first try.

Lewis grabbed Worcester’s second try soon afterwards from a driving maul and Ryan Lamb’s conversion put the hosts 12-0 ahead.

And, with Mike Williams building up a head of steam and the box kicking of Jonny Arr keeping the visitors pinned back, Warriors increased their advantage.

Yorkshire made a hash of their own line-out and skipper Gerrit-Jan van Velze picked up and slipped the ball to Creevy, who powered over for a try, which Lamb converted.

Visiting flanker Chris Jones was yellow-card - ed for an off-the-ball incident but, rather than inhibit the Leeds-based outfit, it lifted them.

And they capped a period of pressure with their first try, Sam Egerton picking up a neat offload from Chris Walker to touch down and Louis Grimoldby converted.

With Yorkshire dominating the scrum and winning penalties, Warriors lock Jonathan Thomas was dispatched to the sin-bin.

Yorkshire took advantage, Walker getting the final touch to a driving maul with Grimoldby’s conversion cutting Warriors’ lead to 19-14.

Lamb’s penalty after the restart increased Worcester’s lead. But Yorkshire showed their attacking potency with a third try, prop Paul Hill finishing off a tidy move.

However, Warriors immediately hit back, Max Stelling collecting a long pass from Lamb and cut his way through to score after Sam Smith had claimed the restart.

Chris Pennell surged over in the corner for Worcester’s fifth try, after combining with Mills.Yorkshire fought back, Egerton going over for his second try, which Harry Leonard converted, to set up a tight finish.

The result remained in the balance until the 79th minute when Betty finished off pressure, and Andy Symons kicked the extras.
