DIRECTOR of rugby Dean Ryan has labelled Worcester Warriors’ first-half display against Wasps as “unacceptable” and told some of his players to take a hard look at themselves.

Ryan slammed his side’s display after Warriors crashed to a “damaging” 54-35 home defeat against Midlands rivals Wasps after trailing 33-15 at the interval.

Warriors conceded 50 points at Exeter Chiefs in their previous Aviva Premiership outing.

Ryan believed some of his players put in sub-standard performances against Wasps.

The visitors' wing Christian Wade celebrated his 100th appearance for the club with a record-equalling six-try Premiership haul.

The England hopeful matched Ryan Constable’s double hat-trick for Saracens in a top-tier match against Bedford Blues in April 2000.

Warriors travel to Leicester Tigers in their penultimate match on Saturday, April 30 (3pm), before rounding off the season seven days later against Saracens at Sixways (3.30pm).

Ryan fumed: “We’ve spent ninth months trying to be competitive every week and pretty much got there but now we’re in danger of letting it all fall down the plug hole just because we’re not getting it right mentally.

“You can’t play the way we did against a Wasps side with five or six dangerous runners and I have no idea where it came from.

“We had talked all week about what we wanted to do and we are falling into a trap of being caught in a space where we’re not getting it right.

“We have a responsibility to ourselves and the rest of the league to get it right.

“I am not going to allow this to continue and if people aren’t prepared to get it right then I will take them out of the team.

“I am not prepared to just let this drift through and think it won’t damage us.

“It will damage us, so we have got a lot of hard talking to do about how we want to finish the season in terms of performances.”

Warriors scored six tries to pick up a bonus point and the try-fest was watched by 10,272 fans in their biggest home crowd of the campaign but those factors were of little consolation for Ryan.

“People need to address what it takes to play at this club because the first 40 minutes were not good enough,” said Ryan.

“The answer is not complicated and it’s not about a coach having to dream up something different.

“It’s about the players having a responsibility to be involved in the fabric of this club because it wasn’t good enough.

“I feel there are people who haven’t been at the standards I would expect and that’s unacceptable. They will be made well aware of that.”
