THE new artificial surface at Sixways will suit Worcester Warriors’ style of play, according to livewire wing Bryce Heem.

Heem enjoyed playing for Warriors as they pipped Newcastle Falcons 15-14 in a crucial win on the synthetic surface at Kingston Park in March.

Worcester will replace their grass in the summer with an all-weather state-of-the-art playing surface.

While Saracens and Falcons have switched to synthetic, Warriors will be the first in the United Kingdom to feature an organic infill rather than rubber crumb.

Heem, 27, said: “Artificial turfs are very fast pitches and the way we want to play on it will suit our style as a team and my own style.

“Knowing the wet weather won’t really affect the surface too much will be quite good and we won’t have to worry about the ground being too boggy or too heavy on the legs. I am looking forward to it.”

The New Zealand ace finished with a seven-try haul in an impressive maiden season in the Premiership.

Looking back, Heem recalled: “The Harlequins game (21-15 win) was my highlight and it was our third win on the trot.

“It had been a rough time for us away from home and to go to Quins with a full stadium and beat them for our second away win in a row was probably my highlight.”

Warriors finished with four successive defeats against top four sides Exeter Chiefs, Wasps, Leicester Tigers and Saracens.

“We just want to go one better next year, keep building on our systems and move our way up the table,” Heem admitted.

“We had made huge strides and progress since our first meeting against Saracens. In our last game, we put on to the pitch what we wanted and scored some great tries.”
