WORCESTER Warriors-bound Marco Mama played the full 80 minutes last night as Bristol took a giant step towards an Aviva Premiership return.

Mama, who joins Warriors on a full-time basis in the summer, helped Bristol to a comprehensive 28-13 win at Doncaster Knights in the Greene King IPA Championship play-off final first leg at Castle Park.

Powerful back row Mama enjoyed a loan spell at Worcester and made nine Aviva Premiership appearances for the club before returning to Ashton Gate at the end of February.

For the first time in four attempts, Bristol head into the second leg of a Championship final with an advantage.

Twelve months ago,  Warriors won the first leg 29-28 at Ashton Gate and then fought back from 30-16 down in the return at Sixways to secure a 30-30 draw.

Bristol trailed 13-11 at half-time at Doncaster but hit back in the second half to open up a 15-point advantage to take into next Wednesday's return leg at Ashton Gate.

Bristol are now just one win away from locking horns with Warriors in English rugby’s top tier.
