LOCK Darren Barry has committed his future to Worcester Warriors by penning a new deal to remain at Sixways.

The giant forward, who joined from Cornish Pirates in 2015, enjoyed a fine debut campaign at the club as he racked up 19 appearances.

After making his Warriors debut in October’s victory over Northampton Saints on the opening night of the 2015/16 season, Barry missed just five league matches all season.

Director of rugby Dean Ryan described Barry as one of Warriors’ “success stories” of the season and had earned a new contract.

“He was an outstanding performer for the Pirates in the Championship but he has been able to transfer that talent and has proven he can make the step-up to the top-flight of English rugby,” Ryan said.

“We’ve been really impressed with his work at the set-piece and in the loose and we hope we can continue to help develop him as a Premiership player over the coming seasons.”

Barry was a regular for the Pirates during his three seasons in Penzance and racked-up 81 first-team appearances after joining from Bristol Rugby.

The 6ft 6in second row was also part of the Championship XV which defeated Canada at Sixways in November 2014.

Barry added: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season at Sixways and I truly believe we are a club heading on the up.

“We’ve got everything in place to succeed as professional rugby players and I’m looking forward to being part of our new-look side for next season.”
