FLANKER Carl Kirwan says he’s can’t wait to meet his new Worcester Warriors team-mates ahead of the new campaign.

The majority of Warriors’ playing squad are due to report back for pre-season training tomorrow.

Director of rugby Dean Ryan has bolstered his squad with new signings, including England centre Ben Te’o, Kiwi centre Jackson Willison, lock Will Spencer and hooker Matt Williams.

Kirwan said: “From what we’ve seen of Te’o, he’s an exciting player who can definitely add something to the side.

“As for Spencer, I’ve played alongside him at London Welsh so I know how good a player he is.

“All of them will be able to add a lot to the environment and drive the squad forward.”

Kirwan joined from London Welsh last summer and, despite competition for places in his first season at Sixways, the forward worked his way into Ryan’s plans, becoming a key performer towards the end of the season.

He played 10 times in the Premiership in 2015-16, scoring tries in the home matches against Sale Sharks and Wasps.

The Durham-born 25-year-old is relishing the chance to play on the new artificial grass pitch at Sixways, which is to be installed this summer.

He said: “The surface will mean a quicker game and will be more exciting to watch.

“It’ll certainly benefit the likes of Cooper Vuna and Bryce Heem, who will have a field day on it.

“I don’t think it’ll change things too much though.

“We’ll be looking to hit the ground running when we get the new campaign under way and we’re looking forward to it.”

Kirwan insists he hasn’t treated himself too much over the summer as the players prepare for another busy pre-season.

He added: “There’s been a short off-season this time round, so you don’t want to get too fat and unfit.

“There hasn’t been too much going on.”

Worcester head to Munster for a pre-season friendly on Friday, August 26, in Cork after firstly going to play Jersey on Saturday, August 20.
