WORCESTER Valkyries duo Stephanie Johnston and Sian Williams helped Great Britain Women Royals to win the plate final at the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series in Kazan, Russia.

And former Worcester player Heather Fisher, who is now with Thurrock, was part of the GB Lions who finished third in the tournament.

Fisher bagged two tries against Ukraine, and touched down against both Portugal and Spain.

Johnston snapped up a brace of tries in the plate final as Royals toppled Spain 44-0.

She touched down in their 36-0 semi-final success against Portugal and also scored in their 25-5 defeat to their GB counterparts in the quarter-finals.

The Scotland international also crossed in their pool matches against Netherlands, France and Finland, while Williams also touched down against Finland.

The Royals had finished second in Pool A, having found eventual winners France too good, losing 31-7, while beating the Netherlands (19-10) and Finland (44-0).

Following their quarter-final loss, they faced Portugal in the semis and eased into the plate final.

The Lions finished day one at the top of Pool C after conceding no points over the course of three games.

However, a disappointing 19-17 loss against hosts Russia in the semi-final prevented the Lions from contesting the overall title.

Following their semi-final disappointment, however, the Lions came back to beat Ireland 32-0 for third spot.
