WORCESTER Warriors are “very pleased” with the academy areas awarded to them by the Rugby Football Union and Premiership Rugby.

The academy licenses are expected to be unveiled today as part of a new RFU and Premiership Rugby long-form agreement with top-tier clubs.

Rugby chiefs were understood to have drawn up the new academy boundaries which would have seen Wasps, who moved from High Wycombe to Coventry in December 2014, secure Warwickshire.

Warriors feared the proposed move could scupper their investment into the area after setting up academy centres at Warwick School and Coventry-based Barkers’ Butts.

But Warriors high performance director Nick Johnston said: “We have resolved things and we are just awaiting the license but it has been resolved and signed.

“We have had a meeting with the RFU and Premiership Rugby and we have got what we wanted and that’s all I will say. We are very pleased.

“We did a lot of due diligence, which proved our worth on the back of the level of investment this club had put in, so we are very pleased with the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Mick Hill has been installed as the new academy forwards development coach for Warriors.

Hill replaces Ceri Jones, the former Wales and Harlequins prop, who joined Newport Gwent Dragons as their new forwards coach last month.

“We have a lad Mick who has worked with us as a volunteer for nine years as a part-time coach and he has stepped into Ceri’s role,” said Johnston.
