WORCESTER Warriors have kept Warwick School - one of the jewels in their Warwickshire academy crown.

Warriors feared Wasps’ move to the Midlands would scupper their investment into the area after setting up academy centres at Warwick School and Coventry-based Barkers’ Butts.

However, Warriors are believed to have retained Warwick School as part of a new academy boundaries agreement.

Parents of children in Warriors’ academy programme in Warwickshire have received a letter from the Sixways club.

According to the letter from Warriors’ outreach co-ordinator Dan Lyne, Warwickshire will be split between the Wasps and Warriors Academy.

And Warriors' Academy will be "looking after South Warwickshire and Solihull Districts."

The new academy licenses are soon to be unveiled as part of a new Rugby Football Union and Premiership Rugby long-form agreement with top-tier clubs.

“Worcester Warriors Academy will be looking after South Warwickshire and Solihull Districts, while Wasps Academy will look after North Warwickshire, Coventry and Rugby Districts,” said the letter from Lyne.

“I would like to reassure everyone that any player currently in our programme will remain a part of the Warriors Academy, should they wish to.”

Last month, Warriors’ high performance director Nick Johnston said he was “very pleased” with the outcome of the agreement.

Johnston said: “We have had a meeting with the RFU and Premiership Rugby and we have got what we wanted and that’s all I will say. We are very pleased.”

Lyne’s letter is aimed at ending speculation into how Wasps’ move to the Midlands will affect Warriors' academy programme in Warwickshire.

“From a geographical standpoint, it might be closer for some of you to attend the Wasps DPP, which will be located at Old Coventrians RFC and Nuneaton Old Edwardians RFC,” said Lyne in the letter to parents.

“I can confirm that we will be running a Worcester Warriors Development Player Pathway Programme (DPP) centre in Warwickshire and I will confirm the new venue in the next few weeks. We will also be still running our Junior Academy Development Centres in the County.”

Lyne added: “Worcester Warriors Academy are still committed to identifying and nurturing the best talent in the South Warwickshire and Solihull districts, as well as all players from the other districts who wish to remain part of the Worcester Warriors Academy.”
