PLAYERS keen to catch the eye of England head coach Eddie Jones must “stand out in their club games,” insists Worcester Warriors chief executive Jim O’Toole.

And the England boss doesn’t expect the paying public to have to ask for the identity of international players at Aviva Premiership matches.

Warriors’ new centre Ben Te’o has been fast-tracked into the England set-up after impressing at Irish outfit Leinster.

Te’o was part of England’s summer tour party to Australia but didn’t feature as Jones’ men romped to an historic 3-0 series whitewash.

Warriors have other players in their ranks, most notably full-back Chris Pennell, who are determined to gain recognition with the Red Rose.

Worcester-born Pennell is poised to miss the start of the new campaign after damaging his neck.

He won his sole England cap against New Zealand at Auckland in June 2014.

Pennell starred for England Saxons in their victory over Ireland Wolfhounds last year.

South African-born prop Nick Schonert and Georgian-born prop Val Rapava Ruskin are also understood to have aspirations to play for England.

O’Toole explained: “Eddie Jones is an impressive man.

“He expects the international players to stand out in their club games and expects people not to have to ask who the international players are on the field."

Meanwhile, O’Toole says Warriors are “in good shape” commercially as they head towards the new season which kicks off next month.

O’Toole said the club had sold more replica shirts than at the same stage last term and had “smashed” the season-ticket sales targets.

He admitted last season’s World Cup had “sucked out most of the disposable rugby income which people had”.

But O’Toole said: “We are in good shape. We announced Greene King as our new shirt sponsor and they are a long-term partners of the club. They are a strong brand in the region.

“We have also seen our new kit from Under Armour really well received and it looked great on television at the sevens.

“It’s (shirt sales) are much better than last year and for customers of a certain shape, a shirt has been designed using cotton versions.”

He added: “We have also smashed the season-ticket sales targets.

“We are ahead of our target in terms of revenue and numbers sold and we are well ahead of last year.

“91 per cent of people who had a season ticket last year have renewed and we traditionally see a big surge in sales in the last four or five weeks before the start of a new season.

“We have had a steady trickle of sales but with (Ben) Te’o coming in, the new kit and a new sponsor they reinvigorated that trajectory.”
