TIGHTHEAD prop Nick Schonert has committed his future to Worcester Warriors by signing a new undisclosed deal to remain at Sixways.

The big forward, who turns 25 today, has been one of Warriors' stand-out performers during his first two seasons at the club.

After joining from Super Rugby side Cheetahs in the summer of 2014, Schonert has become an ever-present in the Warriors side, having started 42 of his 43 appearances in the pack.

The giant prop also previously played for Sharks at under 19s and 21s level and made five appearances for South Africa under 20s, featuring in the 2011 Junior World Championship.

Head coach Carl Hogg said: "Nick is a great example of a young player who's developed and grown through the system, having utilised the infrastructure and resource we have at Warriors.

"His progress has been outstanding and to have a tighthead prop of his quality is a real asset to the side.

"We look forward to working with him further in the coming seasons to try and help him reach his full potential.”

Schonert said: "I've really enjoyed my first two years in Worcester having made some lifelong friends.

"We've had some very special moments, in particular our promotion back to the Premiership in 2015, and I look forward to enjoying more memorable moments over the years to come.

"There is everything a player needs here at Sixways to become the best they can be and hopefully I can help take this great club to where they belong at the top of the game.”
