HEAD coach Carl Hogg is urging his Worcester Warriors players to puff out their chests and rise to the challenge at 10-times English champions Leicester Tigers tomorow (3pm).

Tigers recorded an Aviva Premiership double last season against Warriors, who have never won at Welford Road in 13 previous visits.

In fact, Tigers have won their last 12 Premiership matches against Worcester since a 23-19 reversal at Sixways in March 2008.

Warriors will be boosted by the return after injury of England squad centre Ben Te’o and wing Dean Hammond.

However, wing Cooper Vuna (knee) has been ruled out after hurting his knee in Worcester’s crucial 11-9 home triumph against Newcastle Falcons last Sunday.

Hogg said: “Off the back of a good result last weekend we are looking forward to the challenge but we know how tough it will be.

“It’s a place where you want to get your chest out and express yourself as a team and an individual and it’s a challenge we are looking forward to.

“We will go up to Welford Road and have a real crack.

“We will go there with great confidence from the win last weekend and confidence from some aspects we’ve shown over the first four or five weeks.”

While Warriors can take heart from their defensive heroics against Falcons and a dominant scrum, their line-out fell apart badly in the second half of the match.

Hogg believes Warriors must “get back on the horse” and try to learn from the errors against Newcastle.

“When you get a set-piece which malfunctions as poorly as it did on Sunday it’s an area you look to invest a little bit of time in,” said Hogg.

“There’s a level of co-ordination and trust which sits in the line-out and it’s something I am sure we will put right. Sometimes it’s about simplifying things in pressure environments.”

Tigers slipped to a 34-30 defeat against Sale Sharks last Saturday but Hogg maintains Leicester are “a class side” and trying to “evolve their game”.

“It’s well documented that Aaron Mauger came in as head coach and Leicester are looking to play wider and expansive,” said Hogg.

“But they also know how to tighten up their game and can bring a set-piece power-based game.

“Leicester are a good side – let’s make no bones about it. They have got years and years of history of being successful, especially at Welford Road, and we are not taking the challenge lightly.”

Tigers are fourth in the table and their only loss at home this term has been a 34-22 defeat to high-flying Wasps.

Hogg added: “We are hoping to get one or two players back.

“There have been one or two dinks but some real positives with Jamie Shillcock having a great run in the Premiership and showing what a talented player he is.

“Perry Humphreys has done well so they will get opportunities at Welford Road to display their stuff.”
