GIANT lock Christian Scotland-Williamson has resumed training and is poised to feature in Worcester Warriors’ European Challenge Cup fixtures this month.

The 23-year-old has been out of action since hurting his knee in Worcester’s 25-24 European defeat to Brive at Sixways on October 22.

Warriors return to European competition against Newport Gwent Dragons at Sixways on December 10 before travelling to Rodney Parade on December 16.

And head coach Carl Hogg hopes Scotland-Williamson will play some part in Worcester's double header against the Pro-12 outfit.

“Christian is starting to come back,” said Hogg.

“He did a session on Friday and also Wednesday and we will use the European Challenge Cup to blood him back in and hopefully get him back to speed.”

Scotland-Williamson made his first competitive appearance in two years in Warriors’ opening Aviva Premiership fixture against defending champions Saracens at Twickenham in September.

And the lock also featured against Gloucester, Bath, Leicester Tigers and Enisei before damaging his knee against Brive.

But is still no return date for skipper Gerrit-Jan van Velze, who has not played since taking a bang on the head three months ago.

Van Velze suffered concussion in Worcester’s 35-3 defeat to Saracens and had a spell away from the club to aid his recovery.

“With GJ (van Velze) it has been more problematic than we first thought but we are very much guided by the medical team and the experts on head injuries,” said Hogg.

But Warriors’ head coach says lock Will Spencer, who arrived from Bath in the summer, has overcome his back problem and Marco Mama is making progress.

Spencer is still to make his debut, while back-row Mama pulled his hamstring in the first half of Worcester’s 37-22 defeat at Bath on September 17.

“There are a number of players who are starting to put their hand up and will probably feature over the next couple of weeks and Will is one of those,” said Hogg.

“Marco is probably a couple of weeks away, while Tevita Cavubati (broken foot) will probably be back around the Christmas and New Year period.”
