POWERFUL lock Chris Vui "is just the type of player" Worcester Warriors have been "looking to get".

The Samoan international "does a job in the line-out" and will give Warriors "a bit of grunt".

The 6ft 6ins forward, who can also play in the back row, has joined Warriors until the end of the season.

Vui won't feature in Saturday's European Challenge Cup clash against Newport Gwent Dragons at Sixways (3pm) because he hasn't been registered for the competition.

Backs coach Sam Vesty revealed Warriors are also looking to strengthen other areas of their squad.

"Chris is a young, versatile, powerful forward and just the type of player we were looking to get," said Vesty.

“He plays second row and across the back row and he gives us an option in the air.

“He’s a powerful man who gives us a bit of grunt and carry and does a job in the line-out."

Warriors had problems with their line-out in Sunday's 26-12 Aviva Premiership defeat to Wasps.

Georgian hooker Jaba Bregvadze missed his target in the line-out five times and veteran lock Donncha O'Callaghan was replaced after 59 minutes.

Vesty said: “When Wasps played, they were very fast and especially on our pitch which suits us but it’s hard for tight-five forwards. Any tight-five forward is going to struggle to tackle the whippets in the Wasps' backs on that fast pitch."

Vui has had a whirlwind few months, having captained New Zealand side North Harbour to the Mitre 10 Championship title in October.
He earned his first Test cap for Samoa against France last month.

Vui previously enjoyed a stint at Auckland Blues featuring in the 2015 Super Rugby campaign, while he represented New Zealand Under 20s in the 2013 World Rugby Championship.

Vesty, who is overseeing Warriors' European campaign, said: "We have had some troubling times with injuries but you can also pick up some gems off the back of it."

Vui follows hot on the heels of versatile back Auguy Slowik, Connor Braid and Australian-born scrum-half Michael Dowsett in joining Warriors in the last five weeks.

Vesty said: “We are looking to enhance our squad at this time as every other club are. "We have got people looking at certain positions and we are looking all over the world at lots of levels.

“I think there are positions we are looking more at and there are positions we feel we are strong in. But we are always trying to enhance the squad. We’ve got a guy in Chris who has come in and enhanced our squad and will give us something we didn't already have."

Vui said: “Worcester have a great vision in place and the facilities and resources available at the club are outstanding.

"I’m excited about the prospect of playing Premiership Rugby and hopefully I can boost the squad and help push us up the table.”
