NICK Schonert is urging his Worcester Warriors team-mates to put their bodies on the line tomorrow at Gloucester (3pm).

The promising prop believes Warriors must show their support for each other on the field in the Premiership derby.

“We have gone past trying to impress the coaches. We need to be doing the business for the guy next to us,” said Schonert.

“It’s about putting our bodies on the line for the guy next to us because if we don’t do that we will remain in the bottom three.

“We want to get up this league and stop worrying about where we sit in the table.”

Schonert put in an impressive 77-minute stint in Warriors’ 24-17 win over Harlequins last Sunday and helped keep England’s Joe Marler quiet at the set-piece.

He was pleased to welcome back fellow prop Val Rapava Ruskin, who is understood to be interesting Gloucester and missed the Bristol defeat due to illness.

Schonert said: “I am not too sure what Val is doing in the future — that’s something for him — but whether he goes or stays he’s a good friend of mine and I will always back his decision.

“We did miss Val at Bristol but Nimes (Na’ama Leleimalefaga) did a really good job.

“Val and Nimes are different looseheads with different techniques and our scrummaging pattern changes depending on who starts.

“Everyone brings something different to the party.”

South African-born Schonert admits it was a tough festive period, particularly after the 28-20 defeat at basement boys Bristol.

But he says the players feel exactly the same as the fans and know their jobs are “on the line” if they continue to struggle.

“We are not going out to lose,” said Schonert.

“We go out every week wanting to win but sometimes you go through troubles.

“We felt exactly how the fans felt and probably 10 times worse (after Bristol).

“I know people were frustrated and there were comments going around but we are all human and sometimes we say things we regret.

“We all want to do well for each other and make Worcester a great brand. At the end of the day it’s our jobs on the line.”

Schonert praised the bumper 9,054 gate against Quins and added: “There was a lot of drive from the players and seeing that crowd was a great external push for everyone.”
