WORCESTER Warriors bowed out of the Singha Premiership Sevens after a 29-22 defeat by Gloucester Rugby at Franklin's Gardens.

Warriors won both of their matches on the first day of the competition to secure a Cup quarter-final spot against Newcastle Falcons but were pipped 26-24.

The result left them competing in the Plate semi-final but with a host of players picking up injuries Warriors could not see off local rivals Gloucester.

Against Falcons Warriors took the lead early on when Tom Dodd broke through and Max Stelling converted.

But Newcastle soon strolled into a healthy 21-7 lead after tries for Will Muir, Brett Connon and Cameron Cowell which were all converted by the latter.

Warriors were dealt another blow with Stelling going off injured but they bounced back late on with scores for Ben Howard and Buster Lawrence.

But Adam Radwan put the game to bed with Newcastle's fourth try which was converted by Cowell once again.

Warriors' never-say-die attitude saw young Ollie Allsopp sprint his way to the try line from 50 metres with the last play but it meant a two-point loss for Gordon Ross' side.

In the Plate semi-final Warriors took the lead through Huw Taylor before Gloucester replied with scores for Ollie Thorley and Aaron Hinkley to give them a 12-5 lead.

But Worcester hit back to lead 15-12 at the break after Taylor bagged his second and Will Butler touched down.

Gloucester came out of the blocks firing in the second period and after tries for Harry Randall and Will Safe Warriors were all but finished.

Alex Hearle went in under the sticks late on with Howard converting but Ben Vellacott ended any hopes of a Warriors comeback with a length-of-the-field try at the death.
