PROP Nick Schonert has urged his team-mates to cut out the backchat towards officials when Worcester Warriors cross swords with Leicester Tigers at Sixways tomorrow (3pm).

Ill-discipline cost Warriors dear last weekend as 17 points from the boot of Greig Tonks guided London Irish to a 22-9 victory at the Madejski Stadium.

Worcester conceded 16 penalties in the bottom-of-the-table clash and Schonert insisted his side were determined to clean up their act.

“We gave away many penalties last week with a lot of the boys talking back to the referees which didn’t help us,” Schonert said.

“You have got to remember that you are playing for a team so you can’t lose your head and go off script.

“You have got to stick to the plan and giving away penalties is not really doing that so we had to tidy that up.

“We have had a few words with some of the boys and hopefully we have fixed that.”

Schonert admitted he was also wary of giving Leicester’s powerful set of forwards the chance to charge towards the try-line.

“You can’t give them any penalties, especially in midfield, because they will just get you in your corner and you’ll be defending their drive for the entire afternoon,” Schonert said.

“They are a very good set-piece orientated side so we can’t give them penalties. We need to keep them in their 22 and be very clean.”

Warriors secured victories over Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester before slumping to a disappointing defeat at relegation rivals Irish who reduced the gap at the bottom to 12 points.

But Schonert said they were keen to show Worcester’s fans that it was merely a “blip” as they look to see off Tigers.

“We went there with the intention of putting out our performance on the field and expressing ourselves,” the 26-year-old front rower said.

“We had two great games beforehand but unfortunately we just let it slip.

“It has given us time to go back to the drawing board and see what we did wrong.

“Hopefully we can perform better this weekend.”

Worcester have the chance to do the double over Tigers after pulling off a memorable 31-27 victory at Welford Road in November.

But seventh-placed Leicester will be on a high after stunning Saracens 28-20 at Allianz Park last Sunday.

“Winning at Welford Road is always special,” Schonert said.

“But that’s in the past now and Leicester are probably a different team.

“We have got to pitch up and take the game to them.”
