Kvesic wins Saxons call-up

WARRIORS back row prospect Matt Kvesic has been rewarded for his impressive performances in Gold and Blue with a call-up to the England Saxons squad.

The 20-year-old flanker, who was a key performer for the England under 20s and has already racked up 37 first team appearances for Worcester, has impressed the Red Rose senior team’s coaches and has been handed a spot in head coach Stuart Lancaster’s 32-man Saxons squad.

However, Sixways loosehead Matt Mullan, who has just returned from a tour of South Africa with the England senior squad, has to make do with a place in the Saxons EPS.

Lancaster said: “Congratulations to all those chosen for both squads. We spent a long time deciding on these 64 and there were some tough decisions to make.”

The players from both squads will attend a training camp at Loughborough University between August 6 and 8 and Lancaster added: “It will be a rugby-focused few days, giving us the chance to review the South Africa tour and set our goals for next season and further.”

Former Warriors Miles Benjamin and Graham Kitchener, who both left Sixways for Leicester Tigers, have also been included in the Saxons squad, while Tom Wood, who joined Northampton Saints from Worcester, is in the full England side.
