A COUNTY surgery is in the running for a Worcestershire Health and Social Care Award.

The 2021 awards has now launched and Barn Close Surgery has been highlighted by readers for deserving recognition.

One of the readers who nominated the surgery, based in High Street, Broadway, said: "This practice has always gone above and beyond including throughout the pandemic.

"Nothing is too much trouble."

Dr Neil Townshend, senior partner of the practice, said: "We are very flattered to hear we have been nominated, it is really nice to hear.

"It reflects the dedication and commitment of our staff who all aim to deliver the best possible service, even in these difficult times.

"The difficulty of managing everything remotely for the majority of patients, through telephone and video contact, is extremely stressful for everybody.

"Our staff have adapted - I'd praise our staff for completely changing the way they work and how they have coped with everything over the last year.

"Our current building limits what we are able to do, we are looking forward to moving to a new building in the spring."

The 2021 Health and Social Care Awards categories are: The Health Care Team Award, The Care Hero Award, The Care Home Worker Award, The Care Trainer Award, The Health Care Employer Award, Domiciliary Care Worker Award, The Good Nurse Award, Adolescent and Child Health Care Award, The Dementia Carer Award, The Palliative/ End of Life Care Award, The Mental Health Award, and the GP Practice of the Year Award.

Sanctuary Care has sponsored the GP Practice of the Year award.

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Worcestershire County Council and Knights Pharmacy have also backed the awards, and we are calling out to other organisations to sponsor the awards to show their appreciation for the county’s health and care workers.

Michael Purton, the editor of the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette and Evesham Journal, said: “The people who work in the health and social care industry have always been an inspiration, not just during the pandemic.

"These awards are our way of thanking them for their incredible dedication and skill.

"I would urge all of our readers to nominate an individual or team, to show them how much you appreciate everything they do.”
