A POPULAR Pershore surgery has been nominated for a Worcestershire Health and Social Care Award.

The 2021 awards has now launched and Abbottswood Medical Centre has been getting nominations for the Health Care Team Award.

Nominating the nursing team at the practise Lynda Thornton wrote: “After many failed diagnoses and months of suffering, my partner was diagnosed with cancer, we brought him home to care for him, my son and I and my partner's older children helped care for him. The district nurses were amazing and gave us three weeks of peace and calm with him. Our son who just turned 12 was able to spend his last birthday with his dad, who was pain free and able to share that special day.

“I will never forget their dedication and genuine care. They were with us as he passed away too. Nicki Henderson and team, amazing, just amazing.”

Joan Peachey said: “I would like to nominate Nicky Henderson and her team of wonderful district nurses. Such a superstar - Nicky and her team have cared for me over a number of years. Excellent and kind care with a wicked sense of humour. They shine a light in the darkest moments. Thank you to them all.”

Meanwhile another reader nominated the surgery for the GP Practice of the Year Award, writing: “Everybody, without exception, cares, is friendly and helpful.”

Helen Perry, practice manager at the Defford Road practice, said: “We are delighted to be nominated. The last 12 months have been unlike anything we have experienced in general practice and we have rapidly innovated and adapted, in order to continue to provide the best service we can for our patients.

“Our whole team stepped up to the challenge with willing enthusiasm.

“Working like this has enabled us to continue to look after our patients in the personal way we want to and feedback from patients would indicate that we have been successful in our efforts. We are lucky to have an exceptional practice team who always go the extra mile to do their very best for our patients and we would like to thank everyone for their hard work.”
