SIX people in the county died from coronavirus in a week across ‘all settings’ according to the latest figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said six people in Worcestershire died from Covid-19 – where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate – in the week up to August 27 including four people in hospital.

This means that 1,391 people in Worcestershire have so far died from Covid-19.

Of the people that died in hospital from coronavirus, two were from Worcester and two people were from Wyre Forest.

Two people died from Covid in a care home including one person in Wychavon and one person in Wyre Forest.

Nobody died at home, at a communal establishment, a hospice or elsewhere according to the figures.

The latest Public Health England figures show 1,567 cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to September 2 – a rise of 11 per cent compared to the previous week.

A total of 257 cases were recorded in Worcester in the same week - a fall of more than seven four per cent compared to the week before.

Cases in Malvern Hills fell by two per cent in a week to 174 and the number of cases in Wychavon – which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich – increased by three per cent when compared to the previous week to 281 cases.

A total of 425 cases were recorded in Bromsgrove – a rise of more than 18 per cent – and cases increased by 14 per cent in Redditch to 273.

In Wyre Forest, cases increased by more than 35 per cent in a week to 345.

The latest NHS figures show 416,458 in Worcestershire have now been vaccinated having received both doses of a Covid vaccine – 86 per cent of those eligible.

Roughly eighty per cent of Worcestershire – or 450,801 people – has received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine according to the same figures.

The uptake of vaccines in Worcester is slightly lower for second doses – where it currently sits at just under 75 per cent – but more than 83 per cent of people have so far received at least one dose.
