Introduction

A wonderful woodland which has been developed and nurtured in the most spectacular way by the current owners. Myndlasses Wood is a rare find and stands at the head of the small Rushock Valley, a mile north east of Kington.

History

Historically, Myndlasses Wood was part of a much larger parcel of land of just over 40 acres. Known as 'Minlas', the whole area was listed as Pasture. The current area of the woodland has been owned by the venders since 2001, and work has been undertaken to conserve and develop the woodland into the fantastic place it is today. A survey and report conducted in 2012 emphasises the wood as an important site of ecological habitat recognising the springs, streams and damp areas as of specific ecological value.

Bomford & Evershed Workmen's Hut

This takes centre place in this magnificent woodland. Located on the edge of the stream, the hut provides shelter and warmth with its log fire in winter allowing you to take a step back in time, providing a getaway from the hustle and bustle of modern day life.

Type of Woodland

The first part of the woodland consists of 3.24acres/1.31ha of Sweet Chestnut Coppice with standard trees planted in 1962. The remaining 3.13acres/1.26ha was felled of Conifers in 1994 and replanted with mainly Sweet Chestnut and small amounts of Oak, Alder, Cherry, Beech and Hazel.

Conservation

A Professional Survey was carried out in 2012. The wood is inhabited with ample ground flora such as Native Bluebell, Foxglove and Honeysuckle, providing for the pollinators and insects. Birds are also in abundance with, for example, migratory Pied Flycatchers, Blackcaps and Willow Warblers. Woodcocks can occasionally be seen during the winter, and all year round are Blue Tits, Goldcrests, Wrens, and Tree Creepers to name but a few. Numerous bird boxes are scattered throughout the wood. Roe Deer also pass through. There are two natural springs that run through the woodland. One to the northern boundary which joins the River Arrow near Bullocks Mill, The other spring, on Bradnor Hill, feeds into the south

west corner of the wood but sinks by the fruit tree area.
