THERE is still a chance to catch the remaining performances of Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society’s production of Aladdin which is showing at the Number 8 Arts Centre all this week.

This story of a poor boy whose wicked uncle Abanazar wants to get hold of the magic lamp is a magical journey featuring flying carpets, colourful costumes, spectacular scenery and plenty of romance.

Director Eric Jones said: “Nothing has been left out from what everyone expects from a pantomime; song and dance numbers – led by musical director Jane Whittle – classic solos, trick props and much more.

“And does Aladdin get to fly on a magic carpet? You’ll have to come and find out.”

The company of nearly 50 characters and chorus, including two teams of eight children, have been rehearsing twice a week since September.

Eric added: “Just 12 weeks to put on a show like this is a tall order, but we are nearly there and everyone has worked very enthusiastically to get it right.”

Hundreds of costumes, props and special effects have been gathered from all around the Midlands to create a show which is sure to live up to the high quality audiences have come to expect from PODS over the years, and the show is made up of a local cast.

Aladdin will be played by Paul Turvey, who also played Dick Whittington three years ago, while Louise Bent is his new leading lady in the role of Princess So-Shi.

The irrepressible Rob Brown revives his pantomime Dame career as Widow Twanky while Owen Watts reveals his evil streak as Uncle Abanazar. The Genie is played by Eve Meusz.

Aladdin is at Number 8 until Saturday (11) from 7.30pm, and a Saturday matinee performance from 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £11, £12.50 for the Friday performance, available from 01386 555488.
