BLACK Water County have announced a debut, a UK headline tour and plenty of ambition, and they’re on the way to the Iron Road venue in Evesham.

They are perhaps the perfect answer for those who love a touch of folk with their punk, and a touch of punk with their folk.

Expect tin whistles and punky banjo; anticipate rocky drums and haunting fiddles: and then prepare to be surprised some more by these punk folk balladeers.

A spokesman said: “Armed with debut album Taking Chances, Black Water County are bringing their tour to a town near you.

“This six-piece folk/punk band from Bournemouth have built a reputation as an exciting live act at festivals in recent years, and now the time has come, at last, for their own tour.

“Guitarist Brad Hutchings-Clarke met banjo player Gavin Coles through a shared love of all things folk and punk, and with the addition of Tim Harris on vocals, Andy L Smooth on drums and Shan Byrom on tin whistle, Black Water County was born: later completed with Russ Scagell on fiddle.”

It’s been a long but fruitful journey to this point, with a focus on the circuit and acclaimed live performances in countless gigs.

The spokesman added: “After five years of relentless performing and two EP releases, Black Water County have earned their place on the gig circuit, having played on the same bills as bands such as Less Than Jake, The Rumjacks and The Dreadnoughts.

“Multiple festivals slots at the likes of Boomtown Fair and Camp Bestival have moulded Black Water County into an intense, entertaining unit. Performing songs from the long-awaited ‘Taking Chances’, here you have a band on the first of many tours that you won’t want to miss.”

The Iron Road is based at The Railway Hotel in Evesham and is a noted venue for live music.

The date for the diary is March 31
