TWO serving prisoners made an eight-minute video link appearance at Worcester Crown Court accused of the murder of a convicted child killer.
Gary David Smith, aged 47, and Lee William Newell, 44, are accused of killing Subhan Anwar at Long Lartin prison, near Evesham, last week.
The pair, now moved to separate prisons in the south of England, sat silently as Judge Robert Juckes heard barristers arrange a timetable for the trial, which is scheduled to start on September 9.
They will be asked to enter pleas on May 7 and the trial is estimated to last two weeks.
Anwar, who was serving 23 years for the murder of his partner's two-year-old daughter, was found dead with a broken neck at the prison last Thursday.
When he was sentenced in 2009, Anwar, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was said to have tortured the girl before putting her in a tumble drier and dumping her in a bin.
