MICKLETON has celebrated the installation of a new stained glass window to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Bryony Benwell, a stained glass artist from Cheshire, was commissioned to finalise the design and then create the glass which has been installed in St Lawrence’s Church.
It depicts, in the form of a ribbon, the flags of many of the countries which have been part of the Commonwealth during the Queen's reign.
The concept originally came from Alison Chapman, daughter of Tom and Christine Pring who live in the village.
The Bishop of Tewksbury, the Rt Revd Martyn Snow, preached at the service of Dedication last month which was attended by people who made the project possible.
These included John Conduit who headed up the fund-raising project, Barry Metcalfe of the Mickleton Community Archives who put on a PowerPoint display in church about the history of the church’s windows and Jo Parr who had helped to make the scheme a major project in the village.
About 100 people turned out for the occasion and enjoyed music from organist Doreen Robinson and The Blockley Blokes Choir who performed three traditional songs during the service.
