IT was disturbing to read about thieves taking aerators from Manor Farm Leisure (Equipment raid puts fish stock in danger, Journal, July 17), and I was pleased to learn that the theft was discovered in time to save the lives of thousands of fish in the company's lakes.

What a shame, though, that many of these fish have been saved only to have hooks stuck in their mouths and to be dragged out of their natural environment in the cruel so-called "sport" of angling.

We need to be preserving the habitats of fish for the sake of those animals themselves, and not in order for money to be made from causing them death and suffering.

There is no need for fish to be caught and killed for food, as we can all live quite healthily without consuming them or any other animals or animal products.

Thankfully, more and more people are becoming vegan or vegetarian every year and many others are reducing their consumption of meat, fish, eggs and dairy out of concern for the animals, the environment or their own health.

Worcestershire Vegans & Veggies exists to help people switch to a more humane diet and lifestyle and we can be contacted at info@worcsveg.org.uk on 01562 700043 or via our website at www.worcsveg.org.uk
