A NUMBER of homes and schools are still without power after Storm Barney tore through Worcestershire last night.

At the peak of the storm, around 5,000 homes were left without power after trees were blown on to cables and power lines.

Western Power Distribution has brought in a "huge number" of extra staff to deal with the aftermath of the storm and has only 20 "incidents" left to attend to in Worcestershire.

A spokesperson said: "We have several hundred extra staff drafted in from the South West, South Wales and the East Midlands, as well as contractors, to deal with the affects of the storm. We have a huge number of extra resources to help get power back on.

"Now we have around 20 incidents left to deal with in the area, considering around 5,000 were without power last night.

"Staff are working as fast as possible, with the help of helicopters hovering overhead.

"The staff work really hard in horrible conditions and are doing a great job."
