BIDDING topped at 4,850 gns for a top show bull at Hereford Cattle Society’s Autumn Show and Sale at Hereford Livestock Market.

The selective trade on bulls saw 800kg reserve junior champion, 17-month-old Harvey Bros 1 Lachie, bred and exhibited by Harvey Brothers from Glasgow ,attract the highest bids.

He joins the Cato herd of Jonathan and Rosemary Moorhouse at Taunton, Somerset.

The grand and senior male champion was 21-month-old Normanton 1 Lionel who sold for 4,000 gns. He was the National Hereford Bull of the Year 2015 and was sired by Dendor 1 Harinordoquy and bred and exhibited by TD & WT Livesey from Leicestershire.

Amongst the top selling bulls at the show and sale on October 13 was 19-month-old Auckvale Lotto 1380L, weighing in at 835 kgs.

Lotto, from Messrs W & R Kemp & Sons, Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham, was sired by Auckvale Advance and sold for 3,200 gns to SW Quan & Co, Border Herefords, Wormbridge, Herefordshire.

In the show heifers section Pebworth 1 Ladybird a 20-month-old maiden heifer, sired by Bosa 1 Figurehead, bred and exhibited by Mr N & Mrs L Holdsworth, Stratford-upon-Avon sold for 2,900 gns to newcomers to the breed, VS Powell, Pandy, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

Two first calf heifers bred and exhibited by JW & R Johnson, Burton Joyce, Nottingham realised 2,200 gns. and 2,100 gns. respectively. The first, 30-month-old Real 1 Pansy K4, sired by Solpoll 1 Dynamite, along with her six-month-old bull calf, sold to Mrs JA Pudge, Black Hall Herefords, Kings Pyon, Herefordshire and the second, 27-month-old Real 1 Amulet L2, sired by Kinglee 1 Hotspur with a September born bull calf at foot, sold to FC Jones & Co, Upper House Herefords, Kington, Herefordshire.

Lowesmoor 1 Veronica 1001, an 18-month-old maiden heifer by Eldersfield 1 Carter J773, bred and exhibited by MJ Clark, Tetbury, Gloucestershire sold for 2,100 gns to GE & SE Jackson, Marshland Herefords, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
