YOUNG people with learning difficulties in the Evesham area will have more access to social activities thanks to a successful fundraising drive.
The Freedom Disco is a weekly event for young people with learning difficulties, which takes place at the Pub in a Club venue in the Vale village of Badsey.
The disco’s founder, Tracey Hemming, started a campaign to raise money for a minibus that would allow young people living further away to attend.
Thanks to the work of community groups, local businesses and individual donors, the campaign managed to raise the £10,000 needed to buy a minibus in just six months.
Now the bus has been purchased, and Mid-Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston attended its official launch this week.
He said: “I am so pleased with the huge success of the fundraising efforts for the minibus. It is a credit to the hard work that Tracey put in and it was heartening to see the community and local businesses come together to raise the funds.
"The Freedom Disco is a fantastic local event and I am delighted that it will now be accessible to more young people in Worcestershire.”
